Hi, I inherited my Grandmothers sewing machine and tried using it for the first time today. I am trying to sew a nappy and was trying to sew microfleece to polarfleece and microfleece to terry toweling. The thread on the bottom kept bunching and tangling. I can't change the tension of the thread from the bobbin, but can from the top and changed it to several different tensions. Can anyone suggest something?
Is it the fabric I am using or is there another solution or is the machine just old and not working well? TIA Edited by MistersWandO, 25 June 2009 - 11:28 AM. What make and model is your machine? Does the bobbin go straight in, or does it need to be placed in a bobbin case first? Have you tried sewing on just plain cotton to see what happens. Is the machine threaded correctly? Are you holding the thread back out of the way when you start sewing?
Is the needle new? I would suggest trying to sew first on plain cotton fabric to start off with. Fold it in half and sew on that. Once you have the tension right and the machine sewing properly, then try sewing something else.
