Remote Server Software
Ok, so I've played around with this alittle more. This tv I have is 'directv ready' evidently, meaning that a mini genie is not needed.
All I had to do was directly hook up the TV to my LAN via a RJ45 (wireless does not work) and then there is a source called directv lv dvr or something like that.maybe RVU? I then totally disconnected the mini genie and I can watch directv and use the samsung new smart remote with all directv controls. It's actually pretty sweet. The only issue seems to be that I do lose some functionality of the 'smart menus'. Since I'm using the RVU source, the TV doesn't seem to know the recommended shows and the now playing options.
Along with the home and recorded shows smart buttons. I just added a Samsung 8000 series TV, I have it connected to a C61K-700 Genie Mini (RVU seemed too buggy and interfered with the Samsung Smart Hub features), the main receiver is an HR54. I'm seeing the same issue with the Samsung remote and this is the only thread I could find with someone else experiencing the same. The Samsung remote works fine for a little bit after initial setup (or re-doing the setup), but eventually some or all of the DirecTV remote functions stop working. I noticed when setting it up, it goes through an authorization process where you select your DirecTV device (DirecTV Box 1 is always the only option), so it sounds like it uses something in addition to IR for the control. Now here is the issue although I can't explain why or how to fix it. When the Samsung remote stops working for the Mini, I've found that it is actually controlling the main HR54 receiver which is in the basement far from IR range.
What Is Remote Server
For example from upstairs, I'll select the channel button on the Samsung remote to bring up the guide and the guide will show up on the basement HR54 rather than the mini I am pointing the remote. The trouble does not immediately show up, seems to present itself sometime after the inital setup, perhaps after one or both of the devices is powered down and turned back on. Anyone have any thoughts on how to correct this? I do like using the Samsung remote as the UI and features for the 8000 series are pretty nice. Right I understand the mini client/server relationship to the Genie, the attempt here is to have the Samsung remote control the functions of the mini that is connected to the Samsung TV, but it is instead controlling the main receiver, no IR repeater involved. The Genie seems to get confused about what screen the remote should be controlling, not exactly sure how the commands are communicated from client to Genie but they are IR out of the Samsung remote. Samsung support wasn't much help, their feedback was 'we cannot garauntee control of all devices'.
Remote Server For Mac
I'm experiencing the same issue (8000 series tv w/genie system) - the Samsung remote controls the DirectTV mini receiver initially, then suddenly stops. I have not determined whether it is controlling the master receiver after it stops, but will confirm this as well. Interestingly, I downloaded the Samsung Smart View app for iphone - it behaves in similar fashion with the app initially controlling DirecTV functions, but only for a short period. Samsung support was no help, will try DirecTV later today.
